Perfect Return For Cunningham As Griffons Pick Up Exhibition Win

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. -- Returning to the starting lineup for the first time in more than a year, Corbyn Cunningham couldn't miss (7-7 fg, 2-2 ft) as she led the Missouri Western offense with 16 points in the Griffons' 108-43 exhibition win over NAIA foe Peru State College. Cunningham was one of four players in double figures for MWSU on the night, with Trinity Knapp adding 11 and Brionna Budgetts and Alyssa Bonilla each contributing 10.
In the first of two public preseason tuneups, head coach Candi Whitaker was able to rotate her entire squad in for significant minutes in the game, with all 15 players dressed seeing at least nine minutes of action.
The Griffons finished the night shooting 56.0% (47-84) from the floor and 77.8% (7-9) from the free throw line. MWSU struggled from beyond the arc, hitting just seven of 25 attempts for a 28.0% pace, but held Peru State to just 3-17 shooting (17.6%) from distance and 11-53 (20.8%) from the floor.
Next up for Missouri Western is an open scrimmage against Livin' The Dream on Wednesday, Nov. 3. Tipoff is set for 6:30 p.m. in the MWSU Fieldhouse.
