WARRENSBURG, Mo. – The Missouri Western women's basketball team played their first game in two weeks Thursday as they lost at No. 17 Central Missouri 66-45. The Griffons suffer their seventh straight loss as they drop to 2-8 this season. UCM is now 11-2.
After MWSU scored on their first possession of the game, Central Missouri used a 13-2 run to take the lead and never trailed again. The Jennies led 18-7 after the first quarter and outscored the Griffons 18-4 in the second to take a commanding 36-11 lead at halftime. Western shot just 5-of-24 in the opening 20 minutes and gave up 13 offensive rebounds.
In the second half, the Griffons played much better and outscored the Jennies 34-30. They had 13 offensive rebounds to outrebound UCM 43-40 overall. MWSU had 22 turnovers and shot just 28.8% (17-of-59) for the game but they held Central Missouri to 35.0% (21-60) shooting and 22.6% (7-of-31) from the three-point line.
Asia McCoy and
Jordan Cunningham led Missouri Western with nine points each. McCoy tied a career-high with nine rebounds, while
Logan Hughes added eight points and five rebounds.
Simone Rodney and
Kameron Freemyer also tied career-highs with five rebounds each.

Missouri Western travels to Jefferson City on Saturday to play Lincoln at 1:00 p.m. inside Jason Gymnasium. The Blue Tigers are 1-12 after winning their first game of the season 72-46 over Northwest Missouri State on Thursday.
