ST. JOSEPH, MO.- With the best start to a season since 2009, comes the first national ranking since 2002. Griffon Men's Basketball enters the NABC Division II Coaches Poll this week ranked #19, receiving 97 points as voted on by coaches across the country.
The Griffons are one of three MIAA schools ranked as Washburn sits 10th in this week's poll while Northwest Missouri State remains atop the poll.
This is the 47th week all-time since becoming a Division II member in 1989 that the Griffons have been ranked in the weekly poll and the first since the week of February 25, 2002 in which MWSU was ranked #12.
During the decade of the 90s, the Griffons were ranked during every season but one (1995-96) including as high as #2 in the country for the week of January 28, 1991. Two of those seasons the Griffons were ranked throughout the campaign (1990-91 & 1994-95) to which the longest consecutive weeks ranked in the national poll sits at nine which stretched the duration of the 1994-95 season.
The #19 Griffons continue MIAA action on the road this week as they travel to take on Pittsburg State this Thursday (12/17) and Missouri Southern on Saturday (12/19) with tip times set for 7:30 PM & 3:30 PM respectively.
