ST. JOSEPH – Concordia-St. Paul outscored Griffon Women's Basketball 40-18 in the second half, overcoming a 16-point halftime deficit to win the season opener for both teams, 66-59, Friday night at Civic Arena.
 
Missouri Western fell behind by as many as 10 in the fourth quarter, but cut the Golden Bear lead to six with 34 seconds left on a Simone Rodney 3-pointer. The Griffons didn't score again. Rodney's three gave the Griffs their only points over the final six minutes of the game.
 
Behind 12 points from Katrina Roenfeldt, 11 from Chris Wilson and 13 first half CSP turnovers, the Griffons went to the locker room leading 41-25. Concordia-St. Paul outscored MWSU 24-7 in the third quarter, shooting better than 63% in the quarter to take a one-point lead into the fourth.

• After just three first half turnovers, the Griffons committed 13 in the second half while CSP had seven after the break.
• Missouri Western shot 25% in both the third and fourth quarters.
• Roenfeldt was held scoreless in the second half, but finished with 12 points and a team-high four assists to go with her six rebounds.
• Wilson recorded a double-double in her first action as a Griffon, leading the team with 14 points and 11 rebounds.
• Corbyn Cunningham scored 13 points and added seven rebounds in 19 minutes of action.
• Anastacia Johnson had seven points, six rebounds and three assists when she left the game with an injury early in the second half.
