Rogers State Edges Griffon Soccer in Overtime

Hillcats score final two goals

ST. JOSEPH – An overtime goal gave Rogers State (5-6-3, 2-3-2) a 2-1 win over Griffon Soccer (4-8-2, 1-5-1), Sunday afternoon at Spratt Stadium.

Laurelle Theodore scored the golden goal eight minutes into overtime off a long assist from Kori Watters. Watters banged a pass just inside the box that Theodore beat Griffon goalkeeper Anna Mayer to for the game winner. The decisive goal came off a Rogers State goal kick following a Missouri Western corner kick.

Fans had to wait a while for the final goal. Claire Meyers gave MWSU a 1-0 lead in the 13th minute, beating a Rogers State defender, dribbling into the box and blasting a shot into the upper left corner of the net after passes from Lillian Davis and Mackenzie O'Neill. Anita Gaspar got the equalizer one minute later on a penalty kick, just getting the PK past a diving Mayer's finger tips.

The Griffons had 21 shots in the contest with five on goal. They outshot Rogers State 8-4 in the first half, 11-10 in the second and had two shots in overtime.
