ST. JOSEPH - Griffon softball escapes St. Joseph this week for five regional games inside the Husky Dome in St. Cloud, Minnesota.

Missouri Western will face familiar competition this week at the Kelly Laas Invitational. The Griffons open the crossover event with a doubleheader against the No. 1-ranked Minnesota State. The defending national champion Mavericks are 4-0 after sweeping two doubleheaders in St. Joseph this past weekend, including two games against Missouri Western. Friday, the Griffons open with an early morning game against the host school before taking on Augustana and Sioux Falls.

Last weekend's last-minute home crossover gave the Griffons some added home games. This week starts a stretch of 13-straight games away from St. Joseph for the Griffons that would have been 19-straight had the Arkansas-Monticello 9-State Classic not been cancelled last week.

SCOUTING THE GRIFFONS
  • After a 2-2 opening weekend in Bentonville, Arkansas, MWSU went 1-5 last week against NSIC competition at home

  • Rank fourth in the MIAA with a .325 team batting average
