MARSHALL, Minn. – Griffon tennis fell to Minnesota State Moorhead, 5-4, in their opening match of the season.

Missouri Western started the match with a 2-1 lead after back-to-back wins in doubles play. Sophia Aguilera and Bojana Vuksan picked up MWSU's first win, 9-7, at #1 doubles. Joanna Abreu Roman and Karolina Ström claimed #2 doubles in a tiebreaker, 9-8, to give the Griffons the match advantage heading into singles play.

Bojana Vuksan, playing in her first collegiate event, notched a sweep in #1 singles 6-4, 6-2. Joanna Abreu Roman swept #4 singles 6-2, 6-1. The Dragons needed super tiebreakers in the third set at both #2 singles and #3 singles to steal the match away from MWSU.

Missouri Western stays in Marshall, Minnesota for a match against Southwest Minnesota State on Friday, Sept. 15 at 1 p.m.
