ST. JOSEPH – Griffon tennis fell to Emporia State 5-4.  It's the second time in three matches, Missouri Western was knocked off in the decisive third set of the clinching match.

MWSU started out fast by taking two of three doubles matches. Joanna Abreu Roman and Karolina Strom notched the first win 8-3 at #3 doubles. Sofia Aguilera and Yasmine El Ghazi won 8-5 in #1 doubles for a 2-1 advantage heading into singles play.

After the Hornets tied the match 2-2, Karolina Strom regained the match lead with her win at #3 singles 4-6, 6-2, 6-3. Joanna Abreu Roman put the Griffons in front 4-3 by sweeping #5 singles 6-1, 6-2.  ESU would tie the match at #4 singles and clinch the match in the winner take all third set tiebreaker in #6 singles.

Missouri Western continues its busy week on Wednesday, March 29 as it travels to Northwest Missouri State for a 3 p.m. match in Maryville, Missouri.
