ST. JOSEPH – Griffon tennis (2-2) fell to Maryville 5-1 in the opening match of the MWSU Winter invitational at Genesis Health Club.  This was the first match of the spring season for Missouri Western.
 
NOTABLES

• Maryville opened the match by winning three doubles matches
• Three of the six singles matches went three sets or were in the third set when the match was clinched
• Sofia Aguilera won at #4 singles to cut MU's match lead to 3-1
• The Saints won in #5 and #3 singles to clinch the match
• The Griffons were leading at #2 singles and tied going into the third set at #1 singles when the match was clinched.

 
TOP PERFORMERS          

• Sofia Aguilera won in straight sets 6-3 and 6-2 for the Missouri Western win at #4 singles
• Joanna Abreu Roman won 7-5 in the second set and was leading in the decisive third set 2-0 at #2 singles when the match was clinched
• Sandra Hinterberger's win at #3 singles would be enough for Maryville to win the match
