ST. JOSEPH - Griffon women's basketball (4-1) led wire-to-wire in an 80-49 win over University of Saint Mary (3-5) in the Fairfield Inn Thanksgiving Classic.
SPRINTING OUT OF THE GATES
Missouri Western sprinted out to an early lead as it scored the first seven points of the game and used a 19-2 run in the first six and half minutes of the first quarter. MWSU held the Spires to eight points in the opening quarter and 14 points for the first half.
HOT SHOTS
The Griffons shot 49.2 percent from the field and 42.9 percent from the three-point line; both were a season-high. Missouri Western outshot USM by 15.2 percent from the field. MWSU was also 77.8 percent from the free-throw line and had 22 assists.
NEAR DOUBLE-DOUBLE
Jessica Davies was a rebound away from her first double-double as a Griffon. Davies led Missouri Western with 15 points and nine rebounds. She also tallied two blocked shots in the win.
