ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – Missouri Western Women's Tennis team will make its second straight appearance in the MIAA tournament. This season they will enter as the sixth seed in the tournament and will face off against Nebraska-Kearney. The Griffons will play on Friday, April 29
th at 12 p.m. The tournament is single elimination and will be played at the Cooper Tennis Complex. The winner of the Griffons and Lopers match will face #2 Southwest Baptist or #7 Lindenwood.
Previewing Missouri Western
The Griffons enter the tournament with a 10-5 overall record and a 5-5 conference record. Missouri Western has won two straight matches, beating Lincoln 9-0 and Lindenwood 5-4 this past weekend. The Griffons were able to secure the #6 seed with their victory over Lindenwood.
Yasmine El Ghazi has played in the No. 1 singles position almost all season. She has a 6-4 record at the No. 1 spot and finished this year with a 10-5 dual record.
Sofia Aguilera accumulated a 3-0 record in the No. 2 position and 3-4 record in the No. 3 spot. Senior
Sarah Giraldo has an 8-7 record in dual matches, tallying five wins in the No. 2 singles position and three wins in the No. 3 spot. The Griffons have received strong performances from
Joanna Abreu Roman as she owns an 11-2 dual record. She has went 8-2 in the No. 4 spot.
El Ghazi and Aguilera have been a solid combination in the No. 1 doubles matches, posting a 10-4 overall record in dual matches. In the No. 2 doubles spot, the Griffons have relied on Abreu Roman and Giraldo for most of the season, going 7-5 this year in the No. 2 spot.
Previewing Nebraska-Kearney
Nebraska-Kearney is 17-5 overall and 8-2 in the MIAA this season. UNK has won five straight MIAA matches and have won seven of their last eight matches. The two losses in conference for the Lopers came from Southwest Baptist and Northeastern State.
The Lopers have three players recording at least 10 victories in single dual matches. Emma Neil has a 19-2 record in matches this year. She has a 14-1 record in the No. 5 spot and a 5-1 record in the No. 4 spot. Paula Jimenez is 17-5 overall in the No. 3 singles position. Camryn Parnell is 12-6 this year, winning eight of her matches in the No. 4 spot.
Yuxlu Sun and Sthefani Rodriguez are 16-6 this year in doubles matches, going 12-4 in the No. 2 spot. The Lopers have a combine 18-4 record in the No. 3 doubles position.

Last season the Griffons fell to #19 Southwest Baptist 5-1 in the first round of the MIAA tournament. The Griffons entered the tournament as the seventh seed and faced the #2 seeded Bearcats. The Griffons picked up their lone victory at the No. 3 doubles match which included
Denise Chiao.
