Marathon Week Continues for Griffon Softball with Doubleheader Against Rivals

Griffs host Northwest Missouri State in twin bill at 2 p.m.

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. -
A run of 10 games in six days continues for Griffon Softball when the team hosts Northwest Missouri State in a doubleheader Tuesday afternoon. For the Griffons, it's the third and fourth games in the past two days. The team has won four straight after sweeping doubleheaders from Southwest Baptist on Saturday and Southeastern Oklahoma on Monday. 

THE GRIFFONS

Missouri Western has won four-straight after a sweep of Southeastern Oklahoma State in Emporia, Kansas on Monday. The Griffons have seen the return of a potent offense in the last three games, scoring a combined 28 runs over those games. Tuesday, the team plays the third and fourth of 10 scheduled games over a six-day period. After the twin bill with the Bearcats, MWSU will play six games in three days while hosting the Apple Market Classic.

Tiffany Gillaspy took hold of the team-lead in batting average on Monday. Gillaspy is batting .400 and leads the team with 28 hits and six home runs. The senior infielder is slugging .700. Paige Shifflett hit two home runs against Southeastern and is second on the team with five, while leading the team with 22 RBIs. MWSU is getting consistency at the top of the order with the top-three batters all in the top-four in batting average. They've seen some recent power from the middle of the order with Shifflett. 

Janie Smith is 6-5 in the circle with a 4.64 ERA and leads the team with 58 strikeouts. She has pitched a team-high 75.2 innings in 11 starts and 13 total appearances. Shyanne Saladino is 7-4 in 11 starts with a 5.01 ERA. 

NORTHWEST MISSOURI STATE BEARCATS
Northwest Missouri State is 7-7 overall and 3-3 in conference play after splitting a doubleheader with Southwest Baptist this past weekend. 

Stephanie Mark leads the MIAA and is 20th in the nation with a .540 batting average. Mark leads the Bearcats with 27 hits, five home runs, 22 RBIs and is slugging .960. Chantel Adams leads the team with eight doubles. 

Sarah Baldwin is 5-2 in seven starts and nine total appearances. She sports a 4.20 ERA. Kendle Schieber leads the team with a 3.07 ERA. She is 2-2 in two starts and seven appearances. Abbie Vitosh comes into the week without a decision in five starts and a 3.85 ERA. 

BUSY WEEKEND AHEAD
Griffon Softball will host 14 other teams from the MIAA and NSIC as part of the 2015 Apple Market Classic, beginning Friday. Games will be played over three days and four fields in two locations. Missouri Western will play all its games at the Spring Sports Complex with other game scheduled to be played at Heritage Park.
