ST. JOSEPH, Mo. - After splitting a four-game series at Pittsburg State over the weekend, Griffon Baseball takes a break from conference play against a conference opponent as they host Central Missouri on Tuesday afternoon. Conference scheduling did not pit the two teams together this sesaon so the game will not be counted as an MIAA contest.
THE GRIFFONSThe Griffons saw an eight-game win streak snapped over the weekend at Pittsburg State but still split with the Gorillas and are 13-7 with a 9-3 mark in MIAA play. Missouri Western is 5-0 in home contests so far this year and has outscored competition 63-11 at the Spring Sports Complex.
Cosimo Cannella and
Ryan Degner lead the Griffons with .382 averages. Degner's 29 hits are the most on the team. Cannella and
David Glaude (.377) have 26 hits apiece. Degner's seven doubles are most on the team with three other players, including Cannella and Glaude, having six doubles. Glaude's six home runs lead the team. He and
Mitch Thorman lead the Griffons with 16 RBIs each.
On the mound,
Banks Born's 1.42 ERA leads the Griffon starters. Born is 2-0 in five starts with 16 strikouts over 24.1 innings.
Richard Peoples is 4-1 with three saves in nine relief appearances to go along with a 2.33 ERA. A.J. Martines is 3-0 in three starts and seven total appearances with a 3.33 ERA.
Grant Woods is 1-1 in his five starts and
Josh Lansangan is 2-2 in five starts. The Griffon pitching staff sports a 3.53 team ERA.
CENTRAL MISSOURI MULESThe Mules are 10-9 and 6-6 in the MIAA after splitting a four-game series at Southwest Baptist over the weekend.
Tony Sandifer's .333 average is highest among regular starters for the Mules. Billy Maloney is batting .400 in two starts and Jake Alexander sports a .385 average after six starts. Trevor Jones has started 19 games and is batting .301. Sandifer's three home runs lead the team along with his 14 RBIs. Jones has 22 hits, the most on the team.
Jake Heissler is 2-0 in four starts with a 3.81 ERA. Carlos D'Armas is 0-1 in four starts with a 4.43 ERA and Tyler House is 2-2 with a 4.50 ERA in his five starts. House also leads the staff with 32 strikeouts over 28 innings of work.
LEAGUE LEADERS ON DECKLooking ahead on the Griffons' schedule are the top-two teams in the MIAA coming into the week and the only two teams ahead of MWSU in the conference standings. Missouri Western will travel to Washburn for a four-game series March 20-22. After a non-conference trip to Rockhurst on the 24th, the Griffons host second place Missouri Southern for three days, March 26-28.
