JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - Missouri Western took advantage of 17 hits, including three homeruns, takinge the series opener from the Lincoln Blue Tigers, 15-5, on Friday (March 29). The Griffons were led by
Michael Schulze who went 5-for-6 with four runs scored. The Griffons improve to 22-4 overall and 17-1 in MIAA play.
The Griffons opened by scoring two in the top of the first on three hits. The Griffons got hits from Schulze,
Bubba Dotson and
Nate Ramler. Ramler's was a two RBI single up the middle. Lincoln cut the deficit to one in the bottom of the frame when a double by Clint Cashen
scored Ben Stewart.
A four-run second inning allowed MWSU to take control of the game, and the Griffons padded their lead with two scores in the fourth, fifth and sixth frames. The Griffons scored two or their runs on walks in the second inning. In the fourth
Bubba Dotson and
Nate Ramler homered giving MWSU the 8-2 lead after four. In the Dotson singled in two and in the sixth
Grant Fink hit his 10th homer of the season giving MWSU the 12-3 after six and a half.
The Griffons would score three more in the top of the 9th getting the 10 run victory.
Ethan Ward improves to 2-1 going five innings giving up six hits and three earned runs while striking out eight.
Dotson finished with three hits knocking in four and scoring three runs. Ramler went 2-for-5 with four RBI while
Shawn Egge went 4-for-5 with two runs scored.
Isaac Carter falls to 0-5 going 4.1 innings giving up nine hits and eight earned runs. Lincoln had nine hits with Logan Smith going 2-for-4.
The Blue Tigers fall to 2-17 overall and 2-14 in MIAA play with the loss.
The two teams will be back at LU Baseball Field on Saturday (March 30), as Lincoln and Missouri Western finish their season series with an 11:00 a.m. CDT double header.
