Missouri Western Volleyball started its season off with a four-game sweep at the Northern State/Dacotah Bank Classic. The Griffons are 4-0 for the first time in Coach Cory Frederick's four-year tenure and for the first time since 2006.
MWSU heads east this weekend to Rolla, Mo. for the Missouri S&T-Middle of Everywhere Classic. The Griffons play at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 7 against Southwestern Oklahoma State and finish the day against #3 Southwest Minnesota State at 4 p.m.
Saturday the Griffons play Upper Iowa at 11 a.m. before finishing the Classic against Missouri-St. Louis at 5 p.m.
Sarah Faubel leads the team with 37 kills in her debut weekend at outside hitter.
Holly Pollock played in all four matches and added 50 digs to lead the Griffons and
Stephanie Hattey topped the team with 90 assists.
About Southwestern Oklahoma State: Missouri Western has a 1-0 record against Southwestern Oklahoma State. The Bulldogs enter the weekend 1-3 after playing in the St. Edward's Classic. Lindsay Dusin is a player to keep an eye out for, as she tallied 78 assists and 34 digs for Southwestern Oklahoma State.
About Southwest Minnesota State: The Mustangs dropped just one set in their three-game sweep at the Concordia University Tournament this past weekend. The Mustangs are ranked #3 in the country and boast a young team, as 11 of their 15 players are underclassmen. The Griffons have a 3-2 all-time record in their matches.
About Upper Iowa: The Griffons lead the head-to-head contest with a 3-1 advantage against Upper Iowa. The Peacocks take a 4-0 record into this weekend's Classic after sweeping their own Fall Classic last week. Upper Iowa is led by sophomore Melanie Behnke, who has 55 kills in four matches.
Missouri-St. Louis: The Tritons have matched up with the Griffons 20 times and lead the series with an 11-9 record. They currently sit at 0-4 to start the 2012 season. Freshman Lindsay Meyer recorded 77 assist in the four matches the Tritons played last week.
Up Next: The Griffons kick off their first game at MWSU Fieldhouse against Northwest Missouri State at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 11. It's the first of five straight home games for MWSU.
