ST. JOSEPH, Mo. - The Missouri Western softball team will look to get back on track when they host two home MIAA doubleheaders this weekend at the MWSU Softball Field. Western will take on the Fort Hays State Tigers (20-8, 7-1 MIAA) on Friday, March 30 with game time set for 5:00 pm. On Saturday, March 31 the Griffons will take on the Washburn Lady Blues (13-13, 5-3 MIAA) with first pitch set for 12:00 pm.
COMING INTO THE WEEKEND FOR THE GRIFFONS:
The 21st ranked Griffons will try and get back on track this weekend with two crucial MIAA home contests. The Griffons are coming off a pair of disappointing losses against Emporia State falling 5-2 and 5-4 last Sunday in Emporia. Western is 7-1 at home this season winning seven straight. So far this season the Griffons are hitting .310 as a team with five different players hitting over .300.
Maegan Roemmich leads the way with a .392 batting average with 40 hits and a slugging percentage of .510. Breanna Fleschner is hitting .383 with seven stolen bases while
Taylor Anding,
Blair Stalder and
Keri Lorbert are batting .330, .323 and .310 respectively. In the circle the Griffons are holding its opponents to a .218 batting average with a 2.03 ERA. Western is led by
Jackie Bishop with a 13-2 overall record and a 1.38 ERA. She has pitched 14 complete games with four shutouts. She has struck out 136 batters and walked just 19 in 98 innings.
Annalee Rubio is 10-4 with a 2.24 ERA in 80.1 innings of work. She has struck out 56 batters and walked just 23.
Emily Moe has also been solid for the Griffons with a 2-0 record in 29.2 innings. She holds a 3.64 ERA with 19 strikeouts.
COMING INTO THE WEEKEND FOR THE TIGERS:
The Fort Hays State softball team has been impressive this season coming into the doubleheader with a 20-8 overall record and 7-1 in MIAA play. The Tigers have won nine of its last 11 games. They took three of four games last weekend defeating Lincoln 6-2 and 4-1 and splitting with Lindenwood winning game one 7-0 and losing game two 9-3. The Tigers are 8-2 on the road this season and are batting .300 as a team. They are led by Maddie Holub both on offense and in the circle. She is batting .387 with 36 hits and five home runs. She has three doubles and 18 RBI. Amanda Vaupel is hitting .379 with 33 hits while Adriana Wortley, Taylor Nelson and Chels Rottinghaus are hitting .330, .323 and .303 respectively. In the circle Holub has been dominate as well striking out 176 batters in 110 innings of work. She is 11-5 pitching 15 complete games with four shutouts. Kaitly Shattleroe is 7-1 with a 4.14 ERA in 47.1 innings of work while Abby Morrison is 2-2 with a 5.97 ERA in 34 innings.
COMING INTO THE WEEKEND FOR THE LADY BLUES:
The Lady Blues have been on a little role as of late winning seven straight games entering the weekend with an 13-13 overall record and 5-3 MIAA mark. The Lady Blue are 5-5 on the road with all five coming during their seven game winning streak. The Lady Blues MIAA victories came against Southwest Baptist (6-5, 6-0), Central Missouri (10-0) and Lincoln (11-2, 1-0). Their MIAA losses came against Fort Hays State (6-5, 5-2) and Central Missouri (8-0). As a team this year Washburn is batting .289 with Kacy Covert leading the way with a .411 batting average. She has 30 hits and scored 11 runs in 26 games. Britny Cushing, Alex Zordel, Lindsey Moore and Katie Schroeder are hitting .343, .373. .333 and .322 respectively. Zordel leads the team with 31 hits. In the circle the Lady Blues are led by Kayla Oldham with a 3.28 ERA. She has a 6-7 record with three shutouts. Lindsey Moore is 5-4 with a 4.38 ERA in 76.2 innings pitched. She has given up 103 hits and 48 earned runs with 30 strikeouts.
