BENTONVILLE, Ark. - The Missouri Western softball team pounded out 19 hits and got a complete games from junior pitchers Annalee Rubio and Jackie Bishop picking two victories on the second day of the classic. Western opend up the day dfeating the Lady Miners of Missouri S&T 3-0 and closed out the day with a 9-1 victory over North Alabama. Western improves to 12-3 overall and will take on the Illinois-Springfield and Arkansas-Monticello on the final day of the classic. Game times are set for 9:00 am and 2:00 pm.

Game 1: MWSU 3, Missouri S&T 0
Rubio allowed two hits in the game with one coming in the first inning off the bat of Maggie Schroeder. Rubio struckout the final batter of the inning stranding Schroeder at third.

Western got on the board in the second with back to back hits. Taylor Anding singled and then Leah Steele blasted her first homer of the season over left center putting Western up 2-0 after two innings.

The Griffons got their third run in the third when Anding singled up the middle scoring pinch runner Erin Widrig. The Griffons had three hits in the inning.

Rubio cruised until the sixth when she gave up her second hit to Lindsey DeForest to lead off the inning. After a sac bunt by the Lady Miners advancing DeForest to second Rubio walked consecutive baters loading the bases. She then struckout the next batter and foced Missouri S&T into a fielder choice ending the threat.

Rubio struckout two of the final three Miners in the seventh evening her record at 3-3 on the season. The shutout was her first as a Griffon as she struckout eight.

Breanna Fleschner and Anding both had two hits in the contest as Western left eight on base.

The Lady Miners stranded five in the contest. On the mound Elise Kittrell went all six, giving up nine hits and three earned runs. She falls to 0-2 on the season while the Miners fall to 0-6.

Game 2: MWSU 9, UNA 1
In the second game of the day the Griffons and the Lions played a sloppy error filled game with the Griffons coming out on top 9-1. Western got another outstanding pitching performance from sophomore Jackie Bishop as she improves to 7-0 on the season. She went all seven giving up five hits while striking out ten.

All nine batters got a hit for the Griffons with Steele leading the way with two hits, two runs scored and one RBI. Western took the lead in the first when Kendall Sorensen scored on a double by Keri Lorbert.

The score remained 1-0 until the third when the Lions used one Griffon error and two hits tying the score at one. The score remained 1-1 until the sixth when the Griffons exploded offensively.

Western had seven hits and eight runs in the final two innings. They used four Lion errors in those two inning picking up the big victory.

UNA had five hits with Kathryn Young going 2-for-2 with an RBI. Haley Barnette falls to 2-2 going six innings. She gave up nine hits and two earned runs while striking out two. The Lions fall to 7-3 with the loss.
