ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – No. 8 Griffon Volleyball (12-1, 2-0 MIAA) completed a perfect opening weekend of conference play Saturday afternoon with a 3-0 sweep of Newman (4-10, 0-2 MIAA) inside the Looney Complex.
MoWest earned the win by scores of 25-23, 25-12 and 25-15. The Griffons finished with 50 kills and a .345 hitting percentage while holding Newman to 27 kills and a .157 clip. MoWest also held advantages in aces, 7-1, and digs, 46-41.
The opening set featured seven ties and two lead changes before MoWest pulled out a 25-23 victory. The Griffons took control in the second, putting down 17 kills with just one attack error while hitting .485 in a 25-12 win.
MoWest stayed efficient in the third, recording 19 kills and hitting .457 to close out the sweep with a 25-15 victory.
Emily Loy led the Griffon attack with 11 kills while hitting .435. Taylor Russell and Holly Heldt each added nine kills, with Russell hitting .600 without an attack error. Mackenzie Peters finished with seven kills on a .583 hitting percentage.
Katelyn Diani-O'Day and Emma Duff each recorded 20 assists. Duff added three service aces and eight digs, while Diani-O'Day tallied two aces and five digs. Anna Weberg led the back row with a match-high 18 digs.

MoWest will wrap up its 10-match homestand on Friday, Sept. 25, hosting Northwest Missouri State at 6 p.m. inside the Looney Complex.
