KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association announced its first football athletes of the week for the 2026 season Monday, with MoWest junior quarterback Isaiah Tate earning MIAA Offensive Athlete of the Week honors following a record-setting Griffon debut.

Tate, a junior transfer, delivered a standout performance in his first game as a Griffon, leading the MoWest offense in a high-scoring 63-58 loss to No. 20 Augustana (SD) on Thursday night at Craig Field at Spratt Stadium.

Tate completed 18-of-29 passes for 420 yards and four touchdowns while adding 26 rushing yards and a touchdown on six carries. He finished the night with 446 yards of total offense and accounted for five touchdowns.

Tate's four passing touchdowns tied the MWSU single-game record, while his five total touchdowns also tied the program's single-game record. His 420 passing yards ranked second in school history for a single game, while his 446 yards of total offense ranked fourth in program history.

Tate and the Griffons hit the road next Thursday for their first MIAA game of the season, facing Central Missouri. Kickoff from Walton Stadium in Warrensburg is set for 7 p.m.

The game will be carried on the Griffon Sports Network (GoGriffons.com/listen, Varsity Network App) and will also be televised locally on 38 The Spot.
