JOPLIN, Mo. - Griffon Baseball (22-18, 15-12 MIAA) dropped the first game of a three-game series at Missouri Southern Friday, falling to the Lions 6-3 at Warren Turner Field in Joplin.

MoWest led 3-1 after the second inning, thanks to home runs from Issac Huettl and Issac Sobieszczyk.

Southern (27-13, 20-7 MIAA) hit back with three runs in the fourth to take a 4-3 lead. The Lions held MoWest off the board the rest of the way, adding an insurance run in both the seventh and eighth inning.

Huettl led the way offensively for MoWest, going 3-for-4 with two RBI. Miguel Cantu went 2-for-4.

Cam Saleh (2-3) made the start and went a season-best six innings, striking out five and walking only one. He was charged with eight hits and four earned runs, taking the loss.

Cale Coursey tossed the last two innings in relief, giving up just a single hit and run. He struck out one and walked no one.

MoWest continues the series at Southern on Saturday. First pitch is set for 1 p.m. The game will be available to watch on the MIAA Network.
