JOPLIN, Mo. – Griffon Baseball (22-19, 15-13 MIAA) dropped game two and the season series, falling 6-4 to Missouri Southern (28-13, 23-8 MIAA) after a late-inning rally Saturday at Warren Turner Field.
MWSU struck first in the opening inning as Isaac Huettl launched a two-run home run, bringing home Jordan Austin for a 2-0 lead.
Missouri Southern responded in the third with an RBI double to cut the deficit to 2-1.
The Griffons extended their lead in the fifth when Miguel Cantu drove in Micah Kobuszewski with a double, then made it 4-1 in the sixth as Luke Shannahan scored on a wild pitch.
The Lions answered in the bottom half of the sixth, loading the bases and pushing across three runs on a single, a walk, and another hit to tie the game at 4-4.
Missouri Southern took control in the seventh, using a sacrifice bunt and a groundout to plate two runs and take a 6-4 lead. MWSU was unable to respond over the final two innings.
