ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – No. 47 Griffon Tennis (14-2, 5-0 MIAA) rolled to a 7-0 victory over Newman (0-5, 0-5 MIAA) Sunday at Genesis Health Club.
The Griffons extend their winning streak to 12 matches, remain unbeaten in MIAA play with the victory.
Sunday's match also served as a celebration of senior
Cristina Granero Boj, as MoWest recognized her commitment and impact with the program.
MoWest set the tone early, sweeping doubles to grab the opening point. At No. 1, the ITA No. 46 duo of
Jevrosima Mitic and
Alejandra Ramirez Botella rolled to a 6-1 win, while
Johanna Priedite and
Cristina Granero Boj followed with a 6-0 victory at No. 2. The Griffons completed the doubles sweep with a default win at No. 3.
In singles, MoWest continued its dominance, winning all six positions.
Johanna Priedite led the way at No. 1 with a 6-2, 6-3 victory.
Jevrosima Mitic followed with a strong 7-5, 6-0 win at No. 2, and
Cristina Granero Boj added a 6-1, 6-1 decision at No. 3.
Alejandra Ramirez Botella earned a straight-set win at No. 4 6-0, 6-4, while
Claudia Pastor and
Ella Gates picked up wins by default at No. 5 and No. 6 to complete the sweep.
What's Next
MoWest continues MIAA play with three matches next week, traveling to No. 18 Washburn on Thursday, April 16 for a 12 p.m. matchup in Topeka, Kansas, before returning home to host Fort Hays State on Friday, April 17 at 2 p.m. at the Noyes Tennis Courts. The Griffons then close the stretch on Saturday, April 18 with a 12 p.m. road match at Emporia State.
