ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – Griffon Baseball (21-17, 14-11 MIAA) used a ninth-inning walk-off RBI single from
Luke Parmentier to take down Rockhurst on Sunday, marking 11 wins in the last 12.
MWSU jumped on the Hawks early with a four-run first inning.
Miguel Cantu opened the scoring with an RBI double, followed by a two-run double from
Seth Winkler. Winkler later came around to score on a passed ball to give the Griffons a quick 4-0 lead.
The momentum continued in the third as
Luke Parmentier drove in another run with a double to push the advantage to 5-0. Rockhurst responded in the fifth with a two-run double, but MWSU added back to its lead in the seventh on an RBI single from
Luke Shannahan to make it 6-2.
The game shifted in the eighth inning as Rockhurst erupted for five runs, stringing together multiple RBI singles to take a 7-6 lead. The Griffons answered immediately in the bottom half, tying the game at 7-7 on a fielder's choice RBI from
Micah Kobuszewski.
In the ninth, MWSU set the stage for late-game heroics. With bases loaded, Parmentier came through again, delivering a walk-off single to center field to score the winning run and seal the victory.
Sebastian Gutierrez started on the mound, going 4.2 innings while allowing two hits and two runs, none earned, with four walks and five strikeouts.
Lawson Minshew pitched 2.1 scoreless innings in relief, not allowing a hit and striking out two.
Evan Peterson earned the win, moving to 3-0 on the season, after tossing 1.2 innings with two strikeouts while allowing one run.

Griffon Baseball stays home Tuesday, April 14, hosting Emporia State at 5 p.m. at Griffon Baseball Field. MWSU then heads on the road for a three-game MIAA series at Missouri Southern beginning Friday, April 17 at 6 p.m., followed by games Saturday and Sunday at 1 p.m. in Joplin, Missouri.
