TAHLEQUAH, Okla. - Griffon Baseball (11-16, 6-10 MIAA) topped Northeastern State, 24-16, on Sunday at Rousey Field in Tahlequah.
MoWest scored 24 runs (second most in program history) on 20 hits (t-6th most in program history), leading 12-3 after just one inning.
Trailing 17-4 in the fifth, NSU (9-19, 4-12 MIAA) made its push, putting up eight runs in the bottom of the fifth. MoWest added a combined seven insurance runs from the sixth inning on to secure its first series win on the road this season.
Micah Kobuszewski led a fruitful day at the plate, going 4-for-4 and scoring five runs (ties a single game program record). He walked three times as well.
Miguel Cantu,
Seth Winkler and
Dylan Coty each had three hits. Winkler had six RBI, homering twice. Cantu smashed three doubles, which ties a single game program record.
David De Hoyos was 2-for-5 with two runs scored, driving in seven runs (t-3rd in program history), smashing a three-run bomb in the first inning.
Sebastian Gutierrez (1-1) was the winning pitcher for MoWest. He relieved starter
Cale Coursey in the second inning and tossed 2.2 innings in all. He struck out three and walked two, allowing two earned runs.
MoWest stays on the road to battle Northwest Missouri State in a midweek game on Wednesday. That game is set to start at 3 p.m.
