ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Griffon Tennis improved to 7-2 on the season with a 5-2 victory over Henderson State on Monday at the Ward Tennis Center.
MWSU earned the win behind a strong showing in singles play, claiming five of the six matches to secure the team result. After dropping the doubles point with losses at No. 2 and No. 3, the Griffons responded with a dominant performance across the singles lineup.
Johanna Priedite led the way at No. 1 singles, battling to a three-set victory (6-1, 3-6, 6-1).
Jevrosima Mitic followed with a straight-set win at No. 3 singles (7-5, 6-4), while
Claudia Pastor added a 6-2, 6-2 victory at No. 4.
Alejandra Ramirez Botella delivered a commanding performance at No. 5 singles, winning 6-0, 6-1, and
Ella Gates secured an additional point at No. 6 by forfeit.
Cristina Granero Boj competed at No. 2 singles but fell in straight sets.
In doubles play, the Griffons picked up a win at No. 1 as the duo of Ramirez and Mitic earned a 7-6(7-5) victory, but Henderson State claimed the remaining two matches to take the early lead.
