KEARNEY, Neb. – Griffon Tennis (2-2) dropped a 0-4 decision to Augustana (S.D.) (9-1) Sunday morning at the Ernest Grundy Tennis Center.
Augustana secured the early advantage by sweeping all three doubles matches to claim the doubles point. At No. 1 doubles,
Alejandra Ramirez Botella and
Jevrosima Mitic fell 4-6 to Maria Fiacan and Fernanda Sandoval.
Claudia Pastor and
Johanna Priedite were edged 3-6 at No. 2 doubles by Mia Garcia and Simone Karaouzas. At No. 3,
Cristina Granero Boj and
Ella Gates dropped a 1-6 decision to Rhidiam Yang and Smilte Baktyte.
Holding a 1-0 lead entering singles play, Augustana earned three straight-set victories to clinch the team win.
At No. 1 singles,
Cristina Granero Boj fell 1-6, 1-6 to Maria Fiacan.
Johanna Priedite dropped a 3-6, 3-6 decision at No. 2 singles against Mia Garcia, while
Jevrosima Mitic was defeated 2-6, 2-6 at No. 3 by Fernanda Sandoval.
The remaining three singles matches went unfinished once the Vikings secured the fourth point. At No. 4,
Ella Gates was trailing Simone Karaouzas 0-6, 1-3. At No. 5,
Alejandra Ramirez Botella was down 1-4 in the opening set to Rhidiam Yang. The No. 6 singles match between
Claudia Pastor and Chelsea Seidewitz did not produce a result.

Griffon Tennis will head back to Kearney, Nebraska, for two more neutral-site matchups. MWSU faces Midland University on Saturday, March 7 at 12 p.m., before wrapping up the weekend against Minnesota State Mankato on Sunday, March 8 at 8 a.m.
