SAN ANGELO, Tex. - Griffon Softball (7-1) walked off Texas A&M International, 2-1, in extra innings before falling to No. 13 Angelo State, 6-0, on Saturday at the George and Ola McCorkle Challenge at Mayer Softball Field in San Angelo.
Game 1: MoWest 2 Texas A&M International 1 (9 innings)
The Griffons and Dustdevils played a scoreless game through eight innings, but A&M International scored the first run in the top of the ninth on an RBI single.
With
Sydney Young placed on second base to start the bottom of the ninth,
Ashlyn Finarty won the game on a walk-off home run to left field.
Kalee Higdon and and
Ayva McComas each had a pair of hits.
Harley Pruetting (2-0) relieved
Aubrey Dare and pitched the last five innings, striking out six and walking none. Dare struck out four in four innings herself.
Game 2: No. 13 Angelo State 6 MoWest 0
The Griffons beat the Rambelles 2-0 on Friday, but Angelo State got them back Saturday, leading 5-0 after the second and adding one more run in the sixth. MoWest was outhit 11-3.
Torie Sandoval (2-1) took the loss in the circle, allowing three earned runs and striking out one.
Kendra Mitchell pitched the last three innings.
Kalee Higdon went 2-for-3.
MoWest concludes its stay in San Angelo with a Sunday doubleheader against Central Region opponent Ouachita Baptist. The first game starts at 9:30 a.m. with the second to follow at 11:45 a.m.
