Baseball drops second game in series at No. 4 Pittsburg State

Series finale set for Sunday at 1 p.m.

PITTSBURG, Kan. – Griffon Baseball (5-7, 0-2 MIAA) fell to No. 4 Pittsburg State on Saturday, 7-2, at Al Ortolani Field in Pittsburg, Kansas.

The Gorillas (12-0, 2-0 MIAA) scored the game's first two runs in the bottom of the third inning, but MoWest got on the board in the top of the fourth with an RBI single from Luke Shannahan.

Pitt State responded, scoring twice in the fifth, twice in the seventh and once more in the eighth to lead 7-1 headed to the ninth.

The Griffons got a run in the ninth with a solo home run from Shannahan - his second of the series – but the Gorillas retired the next two batters to end the game.

Shannahan was 2-for-4 with a run and two RBIs. David De Hoyos was 1-for-4 with a run scored and a double. The Griffon offense was limited to just five hits, and the Gorillas issued just one walk on the day.

Jackson Parrill (0-1) made the start and took the loss, lasting 2.2 innings, striking out three and walking four. He was charged with two earned runs.

Griffon Baseball concludes the series at Pitt State on Sunday at 1 p.m.
