PITTSBURG, Kan. – Griffon Baseball (5-6, 0-1 MIAA) took an 8-2 loss at No. 4 Pittsburg State (11-0, 1-0 MIAA) on Friday afternoon at Al Ortolani Field in Pittsburg, Kansas.
The Gorillas struck right away, leading 5-0 after the second inning. MoWest got on the board in the top of the third with a solo home run from Luke Shannahan.
Still down 5-1, the Griffons left bases loaded in the top half of the sixth, and Pitt State responded by scoring three runs in the bottom half of the sixth to go up 8-1.
The Griffons got another solo bomb in the top of the ninth from Miguel Cantu, but MoWest was limited to just six hits, and the Pitt State pitching staff issued no walks on the day.
Shannahan and Micah Kobuszewski each had a pair of hits. Cole Evans (2-1) took the loss on the hill, making the start and going five innings. He allowed seven earned runs on 10 hits, striking out five and walking two.
MoWest resumes the series at Pitt State on Saturday at 1 p.m.
