Griffon Soccer returns home for pair of MIAA matchups

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – Griffon Soccer returns to Spratt Stadium this weekend for a pair of MIAA matchups, hosting No. 18 Central Missouri on Friday, Oct. 2, at 7 PM before welcoming Missouri Southern on Sunday, Oct. 4, at 1 PM. The first 100 fans at Friday's match will receive a vuvuzela, while Sunday will feature Pink Day with pink Griffon shirts available for a minimum $10 donation, with all proceeds benefiting the Mosaic Life Care Breast Cancer Center.

MoWest enters the weekend with a 5-1-4 overall record and a 2-1-1 mark in MIAA play.

Last Week

MoWest went 1-1-1 during a three-match road swing last week. The Griffons opened the trip with a 1-1 draw at Drury, suffered their first loss of the season in a 2-0 decision at No. 25 Washburn and bounced back with a 2-1 victory at Newman.

The Griffons overcame a 1-0 halftime deficit against Newman with two goals in the opening five minutes of the second half. Kendall Knisley tied the match in the 49th minute before Alexandra Milano scored just 47 seconds later to give MoWest the lead.

Defending Spratt

MoWest enters the weekend riding a 26-match unbeaten streak at Spratt Stadium dating back to the start of the 2024 season.

The Griffons entered 2026 with a 21-match home unbeaten streak and a 16-0-5 record during that stretch. A 3-0-2 start at home this season has extended the run to 26 consecutive matches and a 19-0-7 record at Spratt Stadium since the beginning of 2024.

Griffon Defense

The MoWest defense has earned recognition throughout the opening month of the season, with Cadence Dobberstein and Marielle Wright each earning MIAA Defender of the Week honors.

Wright earned the most recent honor on Sept. 22 after playing all 180 minutes against Central Oklahoma and Northeastern State. MoWest allowed just one goal across the two matches, including a 1-0 shutout of Northeastern State.

Ranked Competition Comes to Spratt

Friday night brings another nationally ranked opponent to St. Joseph as No. 18 Central Missouri visits Spratt Stadium.

It will be the second ranked opponent MoWest has faced in its last four matches after traveling to No. 25 Washburn last Friday.

What's Next

Following the weekend homestand, Griffon Soccer will begin another three-match MIAA road swing. MoWest will have just one match next week, traveling to Hays, Kan., to face Fort Hays State on Friday, Oct. 9, at 1 PM.

The road swing continues the following week at Nebraska-Kearney on Friday, Oct. 16, at 2 PM before closing at Pittsburg State on Sunday, Oct. 18, at 1 PM.
