KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – No. 21 Griffon Volleyball (8-2) opened the Truman State Tournament on Friday, September 19, inside Pershing Arena with a dominant 6-0 set performance, sweeping both Truman State and William Jewell.
MATCH 1:
MoWest rolled to a straight-set sweep over Truman State, controlling the match from start to finish. The Griffons opened strong with a 25–15 win in the first set. They carried that momentum into the second frame, pulling away for a 25–17 victory to take a commanding 2–0 lead. Truman State put up its toughest fight in the third, extending the set past 25 points, but MWSU held firm down the stretch to secure a 29–27 win and complete the sweep.
Taylor Russell paced the Griffons' attack with a match-high 14 kills on a .385 hitting percentage, while
Noelle Sutcliffe followed closely with 12 kills.
Emily Loy and
Holly Heldt added balance at the net with seven kills apiece. On the defensive side,
Anna Weberg collected a match-leading 23 digs.Setter
Hayley Barsky ran the offense efficiently, dishing out 18 assists, while
Katelyn Diani-O'Day added 17 of her own. At the service line,
Emma Salker had two service aces. Salker also led the team in blocking with three block assists.
MATCH 2:
MWSU delivered a strong performance against William Jewell, securing a 3-0 sweep inside Pershing Arena. The match was highlighted by Salker's eight service aces, the second-most in a single match in program history. The Griffons set the tone early with a commanding 25-5 win in the opening set. William Jewell offered more resistance in the second set, but MoWest remained in control to take it 25-16. The Griffons then sealed the sweep with a 25-14 third set, capping off a solid showing and a flawless day at the Truman State Tournament.
