Lacrosse puts McKendree away for Senior Day victory

Pruitt's six goals, Williams' fourth quarter goal among the highlights.

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – Missouri Western lacrosse (8-6, 3-2 MIAA) scored seven fourth quarter goals to slam the door on McKendree in a 17-8 Senior Day victory at Spratt Stadium Saturday.

The Griffons are now 5-0 on Senior Day all time, they've won four straight games against McKendree and have achieved at least eight regular season wins for a fourth straight season.

Missouri Western got off to a clean start, leading 4-1 at the end of the first quarter, sparked by a pair of early goals from senior Sam Pruitt.

Leading 8-4 at halftime, the Griffons withstood a small run by McKendree. The Bearcats scored the first goal of the second half at the 8:36 mark of the third quarter, making it an 8-5 contest at that point.

Missouri Western had the answer, scoring back-to-back goals in the final five minutes of the third to lead 10-5 entering the fourth.

Pruitt struck again, just 38 seconds into the fourth quarter, putting Western ahead 11-6 at that point. The Bearcats put up three fourth quarter goals, but the Griffons ended the match on a 3-0 run to slam the door for good.

The last goal came with just 29 seconds left, as senior defender Grace Williams scored the second goal of her career and her first since 2022 on a free position.

Pruitt tied a season-high with six goals. Caetryn Gilreath scored four goals to reach 100 points in her career. Jordan Porter had two goals. Williams, Jessica Brook, Maleah Sosa, Ryann Durrett and Brooke Tjernlund each had a goal as well.

Senior Jazmine Servance finished with a team-best three ground balls. Tjernlund had six draw controls and two assists.

Ava Garaway ended with a career-best 14 saves in cage and caused three turnovers.

Missouri Western goes on the road Friday to play Lewis. First draw in that match is set for 3 p.m.
