KANSAS CITY, Mo. -  Missouri Western lacrosse (6-5, 1-1 GLVC) dropped a low-scoring 8-5 contest to rival Rockhurst (10-1, 2-0 GLVC) on Friday night at Bourke Field.
 
The Griffons scored the first goal of the match in the opening quarter, with freshman midfielder Maddie Chidester's fifth goal of the season. However, the Hawks quickly responded with four goals in the second quarter and maintained their lead for the remainder of the game.
 
Elise Magee led the Rockhurst offense, which outshot MoWest 30-18, with three points after netting a pair of goals and adding an assist. Chidester, Jordan Porter, Jessica Brook, Sam Pruitt and Clare Sondrall each tallied a goal for the Griffons.
 
Defensively, Mae Beins (10-1) collected the win in the cage and Ava Garaway (6-5) was charged with the loss. Senior Grace Williams led the Griffs with four ground balls, while Porter, Pruitt and Caetryn Gilreath all tabbed a team-leading three caused turnovers.
 
Griffon lacrosse will return to action on Sunday in Liberty to take on William Jewell at 1:00 p.m. from the Soccer/Lacrosse Field.
