ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – Missouri Western softball (19-12, 7-5 MIAA) earned a doubleheader sweep over Newman on Friday, winning the first game 9-1 via run rule in five innings, and walking off the second 6-5 in eight innings at the MWSU Spring Sports Complex.
Missouri Western is back home on Saturday to host No. 6 Central Oklahoma. Those games are set to start at 12 and 2 p.m.
Game 1: Missouri Western 9 Newman 1 (5 innings)
Missouri Western broke a 1-1 tie with five runs in the bottom of the third and three more in the fourth.

Taylor Jones each had a pair of hits in the win. McComas and
Kalee Higdon each went yard in the win.
Sydney Rader (13-4) scored a complete-game victory, striking out six and walking two in five innings, allowing just one earned run and three hits.
Game 2: Missouri Western 6 Newman 5 (9 innings)
The Griffons got down 5-0 after the fourth inning, but put up their first run in the fifth and tied the game with four runs in the bottom of the seventh.
Missouri Western benefited from an error, two hit batters and a walk to help them send the second game to extras.
Taylor Jones walked with bases loaded to knot the game at 5-5.
Meanwhile,
Sydney Rader (14-4) entered during the fourth inning in relief and closed the game out, striking out four and allowing just two hits over five scoreless frames.
Rader put Newman down in order in the top of the eighth, and Missouri Western got two on base in the bottom half of the eighth, thanks to two walks.
