Softball swept by UCO in doubleheader battle Saturday

Griffs battled hard in two defensive battles against the No. 6 Bronchos.

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – Missouri Western softball (19-14, 7-7 MIAA) was swept in a home doubleheader against No. 6 Central Oklahoma, falling in the first game 2-1 and again in the second 5-0.

Missouri Western goes on the road to Joplin this coming Friday to battle Missouri Southern in a doubleheader. Those games are set for 2 and 4 p.m.

Game 1: No. 6 Central Oklahoma 2 Missouri Western 1
UCO put up their first run in the first inning, as did Missouri Western. Sydney Young hit a single shot home run to left center to tie the game at 1-1.

The score remained that way until the top of the sixth inning. With bases loaded and two out in the sixth, UCO's Kya Watson came through with an RBI infield single to score the go-ahead run.

The Griffons got two on in the bottom of the seventh, but a strikeout and flyout ended the first game.

Sydney Rader (14-5) went the complete game, striking out five and walking two.

Game 2: No. 6 Central Oklahoma 5 Missouri Western 0
A scoreless battle went into the seventh inning before Central Oklahoma broke through. Harley Pruetting tossed six scoreless innings, but she was relieved by Sydney Rader after starting the seventh with a leadoff walk.

UCO scored all five of their runs in the seventh, benefiting from an error along with four hits, including a two-run homer by Terin Ritz.

Missouri Western had bases loaded with one out in the bottom of the seventh, but a flyout and a groundout ended that threat.

Pruetting (2-5) was tagged with the loss, giving up UCO's first earned run. She struck out four and walked four over six innings.

Mackenzie DeVine and Rachel Barriga each had a pair of base hits.
