SAN ANGELO, Texas - The Missouri Western softball team (4-5) secured their first sweep of the season on Saturday, defeating Texas A&M International 6-2 and No. 11 Angelo State 1-0 at Mayer Field. MWSU claimed the rubber match against the Dustdevils and avenged yesterday's loss against the Rambelles.

Missouri Western will conclude the George and Ola McCorkle Challenge tomorrow at 11:00 a.m. at Mayer Field against Ouachita Baptist. The games will be streamed on FloSports with a subscription.

GAME ONE: MWSU 6 TAMIU 2
The Griffons opened the day strong with a 6-2 victory in the rubber match against the Dustdevils. With the win, Missouri Western improved to 2-1 all-time against Texas A&M International.

Senior
Mackenzie DeVine continued to leave her mark at the George and Ola McCorkle Challenge with an RBI single in the opening inning to put the Griffons in front early. The Gretna, Nebraska, native led the Griffs with three hits in four plate appears, adding a trio of RBIs and a run scored to her line.

After tying the game in the third with an RBI single from senior
Kennedy Preston, Western tallied four runs on five hits in the third, highlighted by a 2-RBI triple from DeVine, to take a commanding 6-2 that would hold until the final pitch.

Junior
Harley Pruetting (2-2) pitched a complete game, throwing all 7.0 innings to earn her second win of the season. The right-hander recorded one strikeout, allowed six hits, gave up one earned run and walked just one of the 28 batters she faced.

As a team, the MWSU notched 12 hits. Sophomore
Sydney Young shined from the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with an RBI and a walk. Preston also added a spark to the lineup with a pair and an RBI.

Missouri Western avenged a heartbreaking walk-off loss to the 11th-ranked Rambelles in a low-scoring pitchers' duel. This victory marked head coach
Nicole Thompson's first-ranked win leading the Western, and it was also the Griffs' first-ranked victory since 2023.

Sydney Rader (2-3) recorded her first shutout of the season in her 80th career start in the circle for the Griffons. The Norfolk, Nebraska native pitched her third complete game of the season, finishing with four strikeouts and allowing only two hits.

Kalee Higdon, who reached on a walk and stole second, home for the unconventional game-winner. Senior
Taylor Jones added Western's second and final hit of the game with a triple in the top of the six.
