MONTICELLO, Ark. - Missouri Western baseball (1-5) dropped a pair of games at Arkansas-Monticello Saturday, falling 5-2 in game one and 4-3 in game two in a doubleheader played at Weevils Field at Union Bank Park.
The two teams conclude the three-game series on Sunday at 1 p.m.
Game 1: Arkansas-Monticello 5 Missouri Western 2
The Boll Weevils (4-1) scored three runs in the bottom of the first and never trailed. MWSU scored a run in both the fourth and fifth innings, but Monticello added an insurance run in the sixth and seventh inning.
Quinn Gundelfinger went 2-for-4 at the plate, including a single-shot home run in the fourth.
Blake Anderson scored a run, while
Jackson Bryant and
Kaden Doan each notched a double.
Logan Winkelman (0-1) took the loss on the mound, going 5 innings and striking out four while walking one. He allowed three earned runs on three hits.
Game 2: Arkansas-Monticello 4 Missouri Western 3 (7 innings)
MWSU struck first in this one, thanks to an RBI single from
Kaden Doan in the top of the first. Monticello scored two runs in the bottom of the first, but Western tied it on an RBI groundout by
Rogelio Berumen in the second.
Monticello scored a run in the third and the fourth, one on a home run and another on a wild pitch, to go up 4-2. The Griffons got one more run in the fifth on an RBI groundout by
Frank Gall, but were held off the board in the final two innings.
Quinton Robertson was 2-for-3 at the plate.
Lynden Bruegman (0-2) took the loss on the mound, surrendering four earned runs on six hits in four innings.
Josh Nolte came in and pitched two innings of hitless relief, striking out one.
