SHAWNEE, Kan. - Missouri Western softball (9-6) scored two wins in the Midwest College Classic at the Mid-America Sports Complex in Shawnee.
The Griffons walked off against Minnesota State 1-0 and then fended off Southwest Baptist in an 8-7 decision. Missouri Western resumes play in Shawnee on Saturday, playing Maryville at 1:30 p.m. and then Rockhurst at 4 p.m.

Behind yet another display of domination in the circle by
Sydney Rader, the Mavericks (5-4) were held off the board and limited to just two hits. Rader, who now has three complete game shutouts on the young season, struck out nine batters and walked none.
Offensively,
Myah Dwyer led off the bottom of the seventh with a single to right field, and she advanced to second on an error. In the next at-bat,
Ayva McComas brought her home with a walkoff RBI single to left - the game's only run.
Game 2: Missouri Western 8 Southwest Baptist 7
The Griffons got behind 6-2 after the fifth inning, but scored two runs in the sixth and then four runs in the top of the seventh to nab the lead. It was McComas who had a three-run home run in that frame to give MWSU its first lead of the game.
McComas also hit a two-run bomb in the sixth and finished with a season-best five RBIs.
Sydney Young went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and three RBIs. She hit a two-run bomb in the third.
Southwest Baptist (6-7) had a threat going in the bottom of the seventh, but the Bearcats left two on base to end the game.
Ashlyn Finarty (1-0) pitched 3.1 innings in relief, striking out one and walking another.Â
