SHAWNEE, Kan. - Missouri Western softball (11-6) picked up two more wins on Saturday in the Midwest College Classic at the Mid-America Sports Complex in Shawnee.
Missouri Western run ruled Maryville 8-0 in five innings and then took down Rockhurst, 7-4. The Griffons now get set to open MIAA play at Fort Hays State on Saturday, March 8 at 12 and 2 p.m.
Game 1: Missouri Western 8 Maryville 0 (5 innings)
The Griffons scored their second run rule victory over the Saints this season alone, slamming the door with four runs in the bottom of the fifth. The final blow was a three-run home run by
Bubba Hoelscher.Â
Sydney Rader (7-3) remained dominant, holding Maryville to one hit over the five innings, striking out seven and walking none. The senior and three-time all-MIAA performer now has four complete game shutouts this season alone.
At the plate, Hoelscher went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and three RBIs.
Myah Dwyer went 2-for-3 with a run scored, including a double.
Game 2: Missouri Western 7 Rockhurst 4
Trailing 4-3 after three innings, Missouri Western took the lead for good with four runs in the top of the sixth.
Myah Dwyer drove in two runs on a triple to right field, andÂ
Ayva McComas hit a two-run homer to center - both in the sixth.
Dwyer was 3-for-4 with a run scored and two RBIs.
Kalee Higdon was 3-for-3 with a pair of runs and an RBI.
Ashlyn Finarty (2-0) was the winning pitcher, tossing 3.1 innings of scoreless relief. She struck out five and walked two, allowing just one hit.
