SILVER LAKE, Kan. - Missouri Western softball (6-5) made quick work of the Maryville Saints Sunday evening, scoring a 8-0 win in five innings at Silver Lake High School - a game that's part of the Washburn Invite.
The Griffons stretched their current win streak to four games, scoring the first run in the first inning and never looking back.
Sydney Rader (4-3) was dominant, striking out 11 of 18 batters faced, and only allowing two hits in 5 innings in a complete game shutout.
Offensively, the Griffons blew things open in the fourth, putting up six runs - two of them unearned due to Maryville errors.
Sydney Young hit a two-run blast to right center to cap a huge inning and push the lead to eight runs.
Young and
Kalee Higdon each led the way at the plate with two hits. Young,
Taylor Jones and
Bubba Hoelscher each had a team best two RBIs. MWSU was an impressive 10-of-24 (.417) at the plate and struck out only once.
Missouri Western continues play in the Washburn Invite on Monday when they take on Missouri S&T at 1:30 p.m. The game will be played at Washburn Rural High School.
