ST. JOSEPH, Mo. - No. 24 Missouri Western Tennis (2-1) took a 5-2 loss to the Augustana Vikings on Sunday at the Genesis Health Club in St. Joseph.
The Griffs took their first loss of the season to an Augustana team that won 18 matches last season and is tabbed as the preseason favorite to win the NSIC this year.
Cristina Granero Boj picked up a win for MWSU in No. 1 singles 7-6, 5-7, 1-0 (13-11), while
Celia Castaño Malnero won in No. 5 singles 6-3, 2-6, 1-0 (10-4).
Augustana (2-0) swept all of the doubles matches, while picking up wins in No. 2, No. 3, No. 4 and No. 6 singles as well.
Missouri Western will resume its season on the road on Feb. 14-15 in Edmond, Oklahoma. The Griffons will next face Ouachita Baptist on Feb. 14 at 2 p.m.
