EMPORIA, Kan. – Griffon Women's Basketball (2-7, 0-2 MIAA) hit the road for its first conference test away from home, falling to Emporia State (5-3, 1-1 MIAA) by a final score of 69-59 inside White Auditorium.
The Griffons opened with 16 points in the first quarter, trailing by one as Emporia State held a 17–16 lead after the opening frame. The Hornets took control in the second quarter, outscoring the Griffons 21–7 to create a 38–23 halftime gap.
The third quarter stayed even at 15–15, keeping the margin at 53–38 heading into the fourth.
In the fourth quarter, the Griffons put together a 13–4 run over the first six minutes, slicing the Lady Hornets' lead down to 57–51 with just over four minutes to play. Emporia State ultimately sealed the night at the foul line, knocking down free throws late to close out a 69-59 victory.
MoWest finished the game shooting 21-for-64 from the field at 32.8 percent, going 7-for-33 from three-point range for 21.2 percent efficiency. The Griffons added a 10-for-15 mark at the free-throw line, converting 66.7 percent of their attempts.
Emporia State went 21-for-59 from the floor, shooting 35.6 percent overall while connecting on 4-of-19 from beyond the arc at 21.1 percent. The Hornets made their biggest impact at the stripe, hitting 23-of-31 free throws for 74.2 percent.
Nakiya Harris led the way with 15 points, going 6–13 from the floor and 3–6 from beyond the arc while adding nine rebounds.
Mia Morel followed with 13 points, knocking down two threes and finishing 7–8 at the free-throw line, also handing out a team-best six assists and collecting four steals.
Ana Oliveira Dias matched her with 13 points on 5–11 shooting and added four boards.
Sydney Lewis chipped in 11 points and pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds, giving the Griffons four players in double figures.
