JOPLIN, Mo. – No. 20 Griffon Volleyball pushed its win streak to 11 straight, taking down Missouri Southern 3–1 (23–25, 27–25, 25–17, 25–17) on Saturday afternoon at the Leggett & Platt Athletic Center. The victory lifts MoWest to 20–5 overall and 12–2 in MIAA.
After dropping the opening set 25–23, the Griffons battled back to even the match with a tight 27–25 win in the second. From there, MoWest took full control, cruising through the third and fourth sets 25–17, 25–17 to seal the victory over the Lions, who fell to 9–17 overall and 3–11 in MIAA play.
Emma Salker and
Taylor Russell led the Griffon attack with 12 kills each, followed by
Trista Marx with 7. At the service line,
Katelyn Diani-O'Day paced the team with 2 aces. Salker also anchored the defense at the net with 6 blocks, joined by
Emily Loy with 3 and Russell with 2. Diani-O'Day directed the offense with 25 assists, while
Hayley Barsky added 20 and
Lia Graham chipped in 2. On the defensive end, Weberg tallied 16 digs, Graham added 13, and
Holly Heldt finished with 9.
With two matches remaining, MoWest 12–2 MIAA holds a one-match lead atop the conference standings and controls its own destiny; win out and the Griffons are MIAA Regular Season Champions, with Central Oklahoma, Nebraska Kearney, Washburn, and Emporia State all sitting one match back at 11–3 MIAA.
