Griffon Soccer clinches No. 4 seed behind Knisley’s late game winner

MARYVILLE, Mo. - Griffon Soccer closed out the regular season in thrilling fashion, earning a 1-0 road victory over rival Northwest Missouri State on Wednesday afternoon at Bearcat Field.

Kendall Knisley delivered the clutch game-winner at the 81:34 mark, scoring her seventh goal of the season with assists from Rosemary Pujado and Aidyn Woodall. The goal lifted MoWest to its 10th victory of the season, finishing 10-2-6 overall, 6-2-4 MIAA (.667), while Northwest Missouri State ends the regular season at 10-6-1 overall, 7-4-1 MIAA (.625).

The Griffons controlled the pace with a 14-9 edge in total shots, including nine on goal, while the defense recorded its 12th shutout of the season. One of the biggest moments came at the 85:20 mark when Northwest's Abby Overbay fired a shot toward the top left corner, but MoWest goalkeeper Katie Stoskopf made a huge save to keep the match scoreless. Stoskopf finished with three saves on the day and now holds a 2-0-1 record with two shutouts in her three starts this season.

With the win, MoWest locked up the No. 4 seed in the MIAA Tournament and will await its opening-round matchup once the remaining conference games conclude later tonight. The opening round of the MIAA Tournament is set for Sunday, November 9, at 1:00 p.m.
