KENOSHA, Wis. - MoWest's Wimach Gilo made history on Saturday, becoming the first Griffon cross country runner to participate in the NCAA Division II Cross Country National Championships.
In the 10K race, Gilo finished 93rd in a field of 259 runners, clocking in with a time of 31:30.9. The race was run at the Wayne E. Dannehl National Cross Country Course in Kenosha, Wisconsin. The event was hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Parkside.
Interim Head Coach Sean Gosewisch shared his thoughts.
"We were proud to represent MoWest on the national stage. Of course you ultimately want to walk away with all American accolades, but Wimach gave his all against the best in the nation and I'm proud of his efforts."
Gilo finished his second and final season competing for Griffon Cross Country as both an all-MIAA and all-Central Region performer. His seventh place finish and school record time at the Regional Race in Joplin, Missouri on November 8 earned him an at-large bid in the national field.
Gilo and the rest of Griffon Cross Country now looks ahead to the indoor track and field season, which starts with the annual Mel Tjeerdsma Classic on Saturday, December 6 in Maryville, Missouri.
