ST. JOSEPH, Mo. — MoWest Volleyball closed out its three-match homestand on Saturday afternoon, sweeping Newman 3–0 inside the MWSU Fieldhouse. The Griffons improved to (15-5, 7-2 MIAA), while the Jets fell to (2-18, 0-9 MIAA).
The Griffons came out firing, claiming the opening set 25-17 before holding off late pushes to take the next two 25-22 and 25-23. The result extends MoWest's winning streak to five and secures their eighth sweep of the season as they continue to roll through conference play.
Taylor Russell led the way with 10 kills and a .471 hitting percentage, while Trista Marx and Holly Heldt each added eight. Anna Weberg was outstanding from the service line with three aces and anchored the defense with 14 digs. Setter Hayley Barsky directed the offense with 24 assists, followed closely by Skylar Walters with 20. At the net, Marx totaled three blocks to lead the Griffon front line.
The Griffons have a road test at Northwest Missouri State on Friday, Oct. 24 in Maryville, with first serve at 6 p.m.
