Late rally sends MWSU to league road victory

Box Score LEBANON, ILL. – Looking to end a brief two-match skid, Missouri Western State University turned to a burgeoning record holder in its midst Sunday, April 7.

Junior midfielder Sam Pruitt (Ellisville, Mo.), during an early April afternoon in Great Lakes Valley Conference action, found the back of the net on four shot attempts including one less than six minutes remaining in regulation. Her four goals, two assists, and six points moved her into first on the Griffons' all-time list in goals to add to her number one ranking in assists and points.

Pruitt's high-flying stat line was only part of the story for head coach Jessica Berg's side though. Sophomore midfielder Serah Ryals (Monument, Colo,) tallied four goals, too, and junior midfielder Mikaela Ness (Forest Lake, Minn.) picked an appropriate time for her first goal of the year, slipping past the McKendree College defense at the 1:58 mark of overtime to send MWSU to a 13-12 victory.

Missouri Western State University got off to a torrid start. They scored 11 of the match's first 15 goals before McKendree ran off seven in a row for a 12-11 lead, leading to the heroics from Pruitt and Ness.

The Griffons are back home Friday, April 12. They begin four in a row on their home turf, as Lewis University visits for a 5 p.m. start.
