ST. JOSEPH, MO. – The bats were working from the get-go for Missouri Western State University Sunday, April 7.
Head coach
Damian Stambersky's squad, turning in a pivotal Mid-American Intercollegiate Athletics Association series win on its home field, gave the Black and Gold fans in attendance plenty to cheer about. It started with a seven-run output over the first two frames and wound up with a three-run seventh inning attack that broke up a 9-9 tie and led to a 13-10 decision over Emporia State University.
The Griffons' white-hot 13-run, 15-hit attack was led by junior shortstop
Blake Anderson (Overland Park, Kan.) and senior first baseman
Travis Wiese (Vancouver, Wash.). They both bashed four hits with Wiese scoring three runs. Sophomore third baseman
Jackson Bryant (Aurora, Colo.) tagged two hits, including a double, and drove in three, and junior designated hitter
Quinton Robertson (Blue Springs, Mo.) added two hits, too, with a triple as part of his game's resume.
MWSU (18-18, 9-14 MIAA) continues a five-game home stand Tuesday, April 9. The University of Central Missouri is in town for a 5 p.m. first pitch.
