Record-setting season comes to conclusion

Box Score ST. LOUIS, MO. – Giving Great Lakes Valley Conference perennial power University of Indianapolis all they could handle, a game Missouri Western State University squad bid adieu to a memorable 2024 campaign Friday, April 26.

On a day when head coach Jessica Berg's Griffons earned seven all-league awards including the program's first major honor in the form of junior midfielder Mikaela Ness receiving Defensive Player of the Year recognition, MWSU went toe-to-toe with the second-seeded Greyhounds for the first 15 minutes at Maryville University's Lacrosse Field. Trailing 2-0 with just over four minutes remaining, junior midfielder Sam Pruitt (Ellisville, Mo.) and redshirt freshman midfielder Brooke Tjernlund (Hugo, Minn.) found the back of the visiting net before quarter's end for a 2-2 tie. They carried the draw into the second stanza before UIndy started off a run of seven successive scores to hold a 9-2 advantage after three periods.

MWSU (10-7) kept on battling over the final 15 minutes. They out-scored the Greyhounds 3-2 in the frame to finish off an 11-5 final. Pruitt came back for a second score, wrapping up a span of six straight multiple-goal outings. Sophomore midfielders Maleah Sosa (Thornton, Colo.) and Serah Ryals (Monument, Colo.) posted the remaining fourth quarter goals.
