MARYVILLE, Mo. --Junior Kaden Doan collected four hits, but Missouri Western Baseball fell to Northwest Missouri 12-4 on Saturday.
Sophomore Lynden Bruegman (0-2) started and took the loss on the mound for Missouri Western. Senior Chris Mazzini was a bright spot out of the bullpen, going three shutout innings without allowing a hit, walking none and striking out four.
In addition to his four hits, Doan had three doubles to lead the Griffons. Senior Jared Munk compiled a noteworthy day at the dish as well, going 1-for-4 with a double and an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 3-0, the Griffons first put runs on the board in the third inning. Missouri Western State got an RBI single from senior Ryan Koval, scoring Doan from first base.
The Griffons deficit grew to 10-1 before their offense got back on the scoreboard, cutting into that deficit in the eighth inning. Missouri Western State picked up two runs in the frame, the big hit being an RBI double from Munk, which brought the score to 10-3 in favor of the Bearcats.
Northwest Missouri State built their lead to 12-3 before the Missouri Western State offense got back to work, reducing that lead to 12-4 in the ninth. The ballgame ended with that ninth inning rally falling short.
